The Tin Soldiers

Rat-a-tat, rat-a-tat went the drum.
‘Hup two three’ the soldiers sung.
Shiny buttons and polished shoes
Uniforms of red, white and blues.

The parade was in full swing.
Happiness and joy the town’s folk to bring
Boys and girls lined the street
Little bow ties and bonnets so sweet

Now the day was over
The soldiers were packed away
Each toy placed under its cover
For Bobby the next day to play

Quietly, quietly they sleep
Each hour is slipping by
Perfectly still each soldier will keep
The days beginning to fly

They long for Bobby’s return
With them once more to play
But oh! of Bobby they learn
An Angel has taken away

Written just before our cousin passed away.
