The Road of Life

Many years ago, a pastor give a New Years eve talk over radio.

He told of a very rich friend who owned a very large farm. Part of this farm was a large mountain. Often, he would climb the mountain just to see the spectacular view. He loved the view so much he decided to have a roadway put in so that all he needed to do was jump in his vehicle and drive up. “Pastor!” he said very excitedly, “Jump into the Land Rover, and I’ll take you up right now to show you the view.”

Off they went. His friend put his foot on the pedal, and the car sped up the road. The Pastor looked up and the first switchback (hairpin bend) was right in front of them. Jim panicked as he thought they would careen into the side of the mountain, but at the right time his friend turned the car, and they sped up the second section of road. Once again, they came to the next switchback and again Jim started to fear for his life. “Wait!” he said to himself, “My friend is driving, and he knows the road. He has travelled this way many times before. I’m Just the passenger, so why don’t I sit back and leave the driving up to him.”

Soon enough they reached the top and they both jumped out the Land Rover, and as the friend said, the view was breathtaking. Jim gazed at the marvels of the world about him when his eye fell on the road they had taken to get to the top. As he looked at it, he could see the entire road. Every switchback was clear to him. He could see there really was no reason for the panic attack.

“How true to life this is,” he thought to himself. We put our lives into the hands of the Lord not knowing what the future will bring. Every turn we think we are coming apart, and we want to bail out. As we reach the next challenge we feel out of control. But God!! He is in control of life. He Knows every corner our lives are going to take. Why not go along for the ride, and enjoy the trip. Then at the end of it all we can turn around and see the Road, He has taken us on.
