Have you ever seen two trees growing side by side? Sometimes you see that one has overshadowed the other. It has taken over much of the space the other tree should have had.
Other times, both trees have grown well together. Each one allows the other room to spare. You can see each tree distinctly.
On other occasions the trees have adapted so well to each other, that it is hard to see one from the other. They look like one tree.
In all these cases, if you chop one of the trees down you find the remaining tree will have an open side. The scar remains long after the first one has gone.
This is so reminiscent to the marriage life.
