I fudged it!
Some time we walk the Christian life with ease. All goes well and our praises to the Lord are loud and clear. But other times, it feels all we do just takes us away from the One we love; from the one Who loves us.
We find ourselves listening to those voices in our mind that tell us that we are failures. Yes, we’ve tried this before, but even back then we could not get it right. Before long we find ourselves on a downward spiral, quickly going into despair.
I’m not a good cook by any means, but as a child I was given a fudge recipe, and have made fudge to fill a river. The recipe is so simple even a child can make it without looking at the book.
From time to time when I pour the stuff out of the pot, that’s all it is – “stuff!” It’s awful! Nobody wants to eat it, and the best thing I can do, is toss it out. I know I can do this. History proved that I can make fudge, for I have done so many times! But this time?
The best thing I can do now is pull that old recipe book out and follow the instructions. Once again we have perfect fudge.
This is exactly what we need to do when we find our lives are in that downward spiral: Go back to God’s Recipe Book of Life – The Bible. Read His Recipe for life:
For God so Loved the World:
Turn from satan, and he will flee from you
Draw near to God, and He Will draw near to you
I Will never leave you nor forsake you
All who are weary come to Me
Fear not for I AM with you
I Have come to give you life in abundance.
The recipes go on and on. Sometimes we need to write these Recipes down and pin them to our fridge or mirror as a constant reminder of who and Whose we are, even before the downward spiral begins. The sooner we turn to the Lord, the sooner satan will leave us alone. In fact, we should make a daily habit of reading the Lord’s Book of Life to keep His Hand on our lives all the time.
