Two baseball captains need to pick the players for the schools teams. The best team will be rewarded by becoming the schools A Team and get to play in all the major games throughout the year. They toss a coin to see who will have the privilege of picking the first player. They both know these kids and they both want the number one player. Just having him on the team will inspire the rest of the members.
I can imagine just for a few minutes that I’m one of those boys. Sure, I know I’m not the best player but I know the game: Play to win! I hear the names being called one after the other. One after the other the teams are being chosen and the line of boys gets shorter.
“When are they going to call my name?” is all I can think about. “Oh, I want so much to be on the A Team!” I strain my ears to hear the captains call out each name. The final name is called and I alone stand waiting for one of the captains to include me on his Team. “Please, even if I’m only a backup for a sick player!” I plead.
“You want to be on the Team boy?” I hear one of the Captains answering as he leaves, “Then go clean the locker rooms!”
A similar picture plays out when Papa God Chooses His Team. When He decides to Call His “A Team” He Chooses me first! But I know I’m not the best player on the field. If I think things over the only place I really deserve is to be the locker room cleaner! The other kids have proven their abilities in playing the game. They are masters at it. Who wants me on their team? I’m only a beginner, I don’t know what I’m doing, I’ll surely let the team down…
But God Chooses me first!
Friend when you want to “play His Game” He Chooses you first!
